A vibrant community
The Mendlesham Walking Group was created in 2010. Since then the group has been meeting regularly to enjoy good company and walk with in the parish and surrounding areas. The walks are advertised in the Mendlesham Parish Magazine, subscribers of e-news and on the Facebook page ‘Spotted in Mendlesham’.
A particular walk that suits every one of all abilities is our “Walking through the history of Mendlesham” and we hope in due course to produce a leaflet for anyone to use.
The slightly longer walks, typically between 4 – 6 miles take place on the Second Saturday of each month and are either within the parish or a short car journey away – often ending in a lunch at a nice pub! We meet at the Community Centre, adjacent to the school at 10:30 am. Toilet facilities are limited but we do have access to the 50:50 Shop nearby, the local pub or church in the village. Walk leaders can provide further advice and assistance.
Dogs and Children (with a responsible Human Adult!) are all welcome. You will be asked to read our Information and Disclaimer leaflet when you join us for the first time. Click here to view in advance.
In recent years the group has participated in the Suffolk Walking Festival http://www.suffolkwalkingfestival.co.uk/ and in 2018 became linked to national “Walkers are Welcome” scheme via the Eye accreditation. See www.walkersarewelcome.org.uk and click on Eye and visit the local web page of the Eye Outdoors Group.
Not only do we enjoy walking we maintain the footpaths that are regularly walked and offer encouragement and support for people who, for whatever reason, want to improve their health and fitness but can only do short walks. The Mendlesham Movers Health Walks are supported by One Life Suffolk. See https://onelifesuffolk.co.uk/our-services/health-walks where you can select and register a walk. Alternative you can visit the local Health Centre or see in the Parish Newsletters future dates for walking. The Health Walk Leaders are trained and insured by One Life Suffolk.
